Star Of The Month: Priyanka Chopra
BollyBrit®'s monthly Star of the Month feature will celebrate a member of the film fraternity who thinks outside the box, has dared to be different, has made a positive impact, social or otherwise, and isn't afraid of going against the tide.
Who doesn’t love a strong, independent woman? We definitely do, and that’s why Priyanka Chopra who marks 15 years of pure sass and talent is BollyBrit’s esteemed Star of the Month for December!
Does Chopra really need an intro? She is, after all, one of the most famous actresses in India, sitting pretty on a bunch of hits, lucrative endorsement deals, and an international music and TV career among other things.
PC, as she's fondly referred to, was famous even before she became an actress, having made a mark at the Miss India contest, and going on to win Miss World in 2000 which brought her instant recognition. Her subsequent transition to films was inevitable, and she made her debut in Hindi films with The Hero (2003). From there on, PC's carved her niche and worked her way up the ranks, having outdone herself with unforgettable performances in films like Aitraaz (2004), Don (2006), Fashion (2008), Kaminey (2009), 7 Khoon Maaf (2011), Barfi! (2012), Mary Kom (2014), and to an extent Dil Dhadakne Do in 2015 and that’s just a handful of them!
Her popularity on screen has led to an immense fan following off it too – PC was one of the first Bollywood stars to endorse and start a Twitter account where she now has a staggering 11.7m followers, and 3.9 million followers on Instagram. Her appearances on the red carpet and at film-related events are widely covered in the media and her personal life too is constantly speculated about.
This is just in India, however. With Priyanka recently headlining Quantico, an American TV show on ABC (an American network channel), her popularity has extended beyond Indian borders – she's also the new muse of the American media and they love her! Naturally!
All this, is widely reported in the media though. Why WE think she's December's IT Girl and beyond is due to other reasons:
This Desi Girl is truly Desi! She always shows off her Indian roots, regardless of whether she's in India or elsewhere and we love someone that's proud of their culture and desi at heart!
And this Desi Girl does it in style!
That’s not to say that she’s bound by cultural trappings though. Priyanka's all for women empowerment and is a UNICEF India goodwill ambassador and even champions the #GirlRisingIndia campaign — a cause that promotes the education of the girl child. She even managed to get a few of her B-town buddies to take part in a short film called Woh Padegi, Woh Udegi!
A celebrity that uses their fame for a good cause. What’s not to like?!
She never fails to post motivational or inspiring quotes for her fans. A positive attitude is the key to being a positive person and Priyanka has the right attitude in droves!
Just one of the other reasons why she's so immensely inspiring!
That’s not to say that Priyanka doesn’t have her moments of melancholy though. Her father, Dr. Ashok Chopra passed away in 2013 and there isn’t a day that goes by where she doesn’t miss him.
She cherishes the rest of her family though and often posts about missing home whiles she's filming Quantico abroad:
These posts prove that Priyanka is vulnerable and human just like us. Missing home and family when you’re living away from home is only natural and a very human feeling and the fact that someone as famous as this celebrated star feels the same as us normal folk does make her all the more relatable!
We love someone who has such strong family values!
She wants to do much more than just acting – she’s even floated her own production house – This gal just keeps going!
Because why not? We love a woman who just keeps growing and going, and opening your own production house is definitely an achievement!
Speaking of achievements, did we mention she’s a singer too?
How can you not rate someone who's so talented, such a performer?
From one strong woman to another – PC's never failed to get support or to support other women in the industry.
Women need to support each other, and we’re glad Priyanka supports other women, including her peers! Proves she's not in the slightest bit insecure or catty!
It’s not just about support though – Priyanka loves to let her hair down with her girl gang! She’s also good friends with Deepika Padukone and the two have quite the mutual admiration society!
Girls just wanna have fun, after all – Who said contemporaries can't be friends?!
It's not just talent though. PC totally also has the fashion game on point too:
Ayesha Mehra. Fashionista extraordinaire. Need we say more?
And last but definitely not the least, this is the woman who has ALWAYS stolen the show whenever she’s on screen! Don't believe us... These iconic characters in author backed films speak for themselves!
Not hard to see why there are so many #PCManiacs out there now, is it?
