This bit of news makes for a refreshing change. Usually one hears how our Bollywood stars are striving to get a lighter complexion but in Yash Raj Films' upcoming Gunday, Arjun Kapoor, who plays a coal thief in the film, says he had a difficult time during the shoot as he had to go four shades darker for his role.

Gunday, which also stars Ranveer Singh, is based in 1970s Calcutta (now Kolkata), and both actors had to get their body tanned to match the skin tone of locals in Calcutta just to make their parts and the film look authentic.

"I had it more difficult than Ranveer Singh as he had to go only two shades darker. For me, it was almost four shades," Arjun said in a statement to IANS.

It took approximately three hours for both actors to apply their fake tans, and a further two hours to get it off each time. I'm sure that was longer than it took leading lady Priyanka Chopra to get ready!

In Gunday, Ranveer and Arjun play Bikram and Bala, two inconsequential coal thieves who go on to become respected members of the mafia in 1970's Calcutta. The film also stars Irrfan Khan and hits the marquee this Valentines Day, 14 February.

Are you looking forward to Gunday?
