Deepika —"Ramleela is a mentally, physically, and emotionally demanding film"

Destiny's favourite child in 2013, Deepika Padukone has plenty to smile about. She's notched up one mammoth hit after another in the form of Cocktail last year and Race 2, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Chennai Express completed her hat trick this year, establishing her position as Tinsel Town's newest empress.

But the year isn't over yet. If the initial trailer of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Ramleela is anything to go by, the dimpled beauty may just have another crackerjack hit in her kitty, and this time round DP seems to have gone the extra mile with her performance too.

The actress claims that Ramleela is an extremely tough film and says that director Bhansali is such a perfectionist that he doesn't settle for anything less than what he has in mind.

"It has not been easy, it has been really mentally, physically, and emotionally demanding film," said the 28-year-old, who spent over a year on the project, to IANS.

"The fact that he is a perfectionist, he doesn't let go of anything. He looks at things a certain way and it has to be more or less that way.

"He has a vision and everyone works towards that. So, it obviously has been a very tough journey, as exciting and challenging as it was, it has also been quite tough. So to see all of that come together, I did get a little emotional," she added.

The actress also thanks her designer Anju Modi because her costumes helped her get into the character in the intense drama.

"Anju has done a fabulous job considering this is her first feature film... I felt in the character the minute I wore the clothes. I felt like Leela," said the actress.

"I think that is the most important aspect when a designer comes on board. It's so important to allow the actor to feel like the character," she finished off.

Set in a rustic region of Gujarat, Ramleela sees Deepika opposite rumoured real life beau Ranveer Singh and also stars Richa Chaddha, Gulshan Devaiah and Supriya Pathak. It hits theatres 29 November.
