Shahid Kapoor announcing that he was snipping off his infamous locks for the upcoming Haider had made the hashtag #DontGoBaldShahid trend on Twitter for a few hours, raised quite a few eyebrows and piqued curiosity levels of both fans and industry folk alike.

Well the actor's look has finally been revealed and contrary to popular perception, he has gone for a shorter crew cut and not gone completely bald.

And whaddayaknow — the short hair actually suits him, and has raised expectations for the upcoming adaptation of the Shakespearean tragedy Hamlet at least ten fold.

"Disney UTV Studios' previous association with Vishal Bharadwaj and Shahid Kapoor delivered the cult box office hit Kaminey. The audiences have long awaited the next instalment from this team, and in Haider we believe the audiences will find the wait was well worth it. With an incredible ensemble of actors including Tabu, Shraddha Kapur and Kay Kay Menon, this Shakespearean interpretation set against the backdrop of militancy in Kashmir, has some remarkable performances and great music. We  believe Haider will be a worthy successor to  Maqbool and Omkara," says Amar Butala, Creative Director, Studios, Disney UTV.

“I believe in the script and have completely surrendered to Vishal sir’s vision on my character and my look,” added Shahid.

A Kashmiri musician has been signed by Bhardwaj to compose music for the film. Raja Bilal, a young local composer, confirmed that the prolific director had approached him recently to compose a song which had traditional Kashmiri elements.

"Traditional Kashmiri musical instruments including the 'Tumbaknari', 'Sarangi' 'Rabab' and 'Nout' were used to compose the song by an orchestra of local musicians selected by me," Bilal told reporters in Srinagar.

The film is midway through its shooting schedule in the troubled valley of Kashmir, and hits the marquee 12 September 2014.
