Marvel Movie Tidbits: Robert Redford reveals vital Captain America plot details, Anthony Mackie talks Falcon and surprise X-Men cameo in ‘The Wolverine’
With the amount of money Iron Man 3 has minted, it's hardly surprising that a lot of bets are placed on upcoming Marvel flicks – among them being the sequel to Captain America, titled Captain America The Winter Soldier, and a sequel to the 2009 dud X-Men Origns: Wolverine, which is simply called The Wolverine.
Caution. Major spoilers ahead.
Captain America The Winter Solidier, especially looks very promising on paper. A whopper cast comprising of Chris Evans, Scarlett Johannson, Samuel L Jackson, Anthony Mackie and Robert Redford has a lot of fanboys excited, especially since much of the plot has been kept under wraps. Until now that is.
Unfortunately, recently, Robert Redford let loose a major spoiler regarding his role in the anticipated sequel. When speaking to entertainment journalist Will Lawrence, in a recent edition of The Straits Times’ Life! Section, Redford said:
“I like the idea of playing a villain… I did that just because it’s a different thing for me to do.”
Basically, this implies that Redford is playing a surgically enhanced or masked Red Skull (posing as a senior Shield agent) in the film. If this is in fact true then Redford has revealed the big plot twist, and no doubt upset a lot of the bigwigs at Marvel/Disney in the process and ruined the film for the rest of us. Or is it just a red herring? Who knows.
While on the film, Anthony Mackie too offered a few more details on his role as Sam Wilson, a.k.a. The Falcon saying,
“Sam's very involved. I'm in about 60 percent of the movie. Captain America, the Black Widow and The Falcon take down the Winter Solider together, and they solve the crime at hand and take down the Winter Soldier. So this movie, if you look at the cast, with everybody in (the fictional crime-fighting group) S.H.I.E.L.D. and (co-stars Robert) Redford and Sam Jackson and everybody who's in the movie, it's kind of turning into The Avengers Part 2 because the cast is so big.”
Another sequel that seems to have improved on the first one, The Wolverine, also has a surprise in store for audiences it seems. Rumour has it that a post credits scene involves Logan (Hugh Jackman) interacting with Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart), and that the scene ties in with Bryan Singer's X:Men Days of Future Past – which releases next summer.
Whether this bit of news is true or not, one things for sure, Marvel clearly has a lot of aces up its sleeve and will no doubt be minting the cash at the box office in the next few years to come.
The Wolverine hits theatres this July and Captain America The Winter Soldier is set for release in April 2014.
