Aamir Khan turns 49 – Discusses plans for 2014
Probably one of the most prolific and talented actors of our generation, Aamir Khan, turns 49 today, Friday 14 March.
Upon being questioned as to what the actor/filmmaker has planned for the year ahead, Aamir said he wants to devote all his time in 2014 to his social issue-based TV show Satyamev Jayate.
Besides Rajkumar Hirani's Peekay, which hits the marquee this Christmas, the actor has no films in the pipeline.
Talking to reporters at his residence, where he celebrates his birthday with the media annually, Aamir said: "Last year was great. I was happy with the success of Dhoom 3, and I was glad that all our hard work paid off."
"This year, I am dedicating all my time to Satyamev Jayate. Only Raju's Peekay will release towards the end, but there's no other film. So, my whole year is for the show," added Aamir.
Satyamev Jayate is a platform where Aamir brings socially relevant issues (like rape) to the forefront and discusses startling facts about them.
Apparently, the show's telecast has been divided into three parts this season. Of the four episodes that were slated for March, two have already aired.
"We will return with a few episodes in July, and then we will come back with some episodes in a month towards the end of 2014," he continued.
The actor, however, refused to divulge the subjects that future episodes would address.
Upon being probed about the defamatory social media campaign against him, Aamir retorted: "It makes me sad when people do good work and then people react this way. Such people are less in number, but they are trying to spread rumours about me via social media."
"Social media is also such where people can spread any information anonymously. I feel sad. I am trying to do my bit, but I know our janata (people) know what's true. They have been seeing me and my work for 25 years. They know what's right," he added.
Aamir was diplomacy personified when asked about sharing his views on politics and which party he would be supporting in the upcoming elections.
"I am not supporting any political party's campaign, nor do I support any political party," said Aamir.
"It's a democratic country and I believe each person should take their own decision and must go out and vote intelligently," he added.
"Every person of voting age should vote," he continued.
Asked to comment on Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP, Aamir said: "AAP is a new party. Let's see what they do. As I said, I don't support any political party, but if there's an important cause, we all come forward."
Well said Aamir.
In a career spanning thirty years (if you include Holi in 1984), Aamir has been a part of some of the biggest Bollywood blockbusters like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Dil, Rangeela, Raja Hindustani, Lagaan, Ghajini, 3 Idiots and Dhoom 3 to name a few. In Peekay, Aamir will be seen with Anushka Sharma and Sushant Singh Rajput.
