Happy birthday Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka Chopra really has come a long long way. From an awkward acting debut in Andaaz ten years ago to lending her voice to a Disney film or living the popstar dream, PC seems to have covered a lot of ground in her 31 years on this planet.
What perhaps sets her apart from her contemporaries is drive. And focus. Despite suffering a major loss in the form of her father, Piggy Chops continues to be a trooper. And she has to be given immense credit for that trait alone.
On her birthday, we look at her parts in five of her upcoming films and decide which one holds the most promise for her both as an actress and at the box office. Which of PC's films are you looking forward to the most and why? Let us know below.
Zanjeer
Opens: 6 September 2013
In Zanjeer, a remake of the 1973 film of the same name, PC plays Mala, but unlike the original where Jaya Bachchan played the part of a knife thrower, the modern day version sees PC as an NRI entrepreneur who's the sole witness to a brutal murder. The trailer which released recently shows far more of Ram Charan and will most likely score commercially, but it seems like the actress doesn't have much to do in the film. We could be wrong though. I guess we'll find out come September.
Krrish 3
Opens: Diwali 2013
Krrish 3 is a sure shot winner at ticket windows. A guaranteed successful franchise and Hrithik Roshan back in a film after over a year is more than likely to have some kind of clout at the box office. In the film PC returns as Krrish's wife Priya, but little is known about her part – will she have anything worthwhile to do in the film or will she just play the damsel in distress? Either way she has great chemistry with Hrithik, so we'll see what the Roshans pull out the bag this time. It all looks very exciting at the moment though.
Gunday
Opens: February 2014
Even though this period gangster drama releases next year, we've seen enough production stills from the film to get excited about it. In what looks like a love triangle between PC, Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor, early rumours seem to suggest that Yash Raj Films were looking for an actress that could actually act – which is why they went to Priyanka with the part. It doesn't sound like anything the actress has done before and it will be interesting to see her being paired opposite actors a few years younger than her.
Mary Kom
Opens: 2014
Of all of Priyanka's releases, this film is perhaps the most exciting – at least in terms of her role. The biopic which is produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, sees PC as Olympic medallist and boxer Mary Kom, and early reports seem to indicate that the actress is pulling out all the stops for her part. The tide has turned for female centric films in recent times, so with the right people doing their thing, and PC giving the part her all, this may turn out to be just another landmark film in versatile actress's career.
Milan Talkies
Opens: 2014
Not much is known about this Ekta Kapoor production, except that it's a small town romance directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia who won raves for his Paan Singh Tomar last year, and that is sees PC opposite Imran Khan. Initial reports suggest that it has a quirky plot, but we're more excited about seeing Imran-Priyanka together for the first time – it's been a while coming.
Whatever the outcome of these films, it's obvious that it's quite a mixed bag so PC gets full marks for versatility and taking risks. And this is exactly why we adore her... and going forward we hope she continues dazzling us with superior performances, and now with a happening pop career too!
Happy birthday Priyanka... we hope you continue inspiring us in the years to come the way you have been until now.
