'Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice' Teaser Lands... And Sadly, It Blows
"Tell me do you bleed? You will...."
My first reaction:
Within seconds of the trailer airing there were memes splashed all over the net, and a couple of them were laugh out loud funny. Sample:
Anyway. Coming back to the trailer itself. Seriously. Handing the reigns to Zack Snyder to helm this film was one big cock up on Warner/DC’s part.
Agreed that Yawn Of Justice is an entire year away from release, but if it's anything like this morbid, useless trailer, then it’s going to SUCK on an epic scale.
Aren’t we done with the whole 'I’m Batman and I’m a tortured soul' routine? And what's more, literally about 60% of this trailer is just rain. And nothing else. How much did that set them back I wonder?
Even the whole godlike analogy with Superman has been explored by Bryan Singer in Superman Returns, so why subject us to that BS here again?
And before I get mauled by DC fans, let me just add that I’m a massive Superman fan and was devastated with how Synder butchered Man of Steel. It was too dark, too unconvincing and way over the top. And it looks like he’s done the same here.
My biggest problem with Warner is that, they're trying to squeeze too much into one film to catch up with the Marvel Universe, and conveniently forgetting that Marvel took nearly ten years to establish their universe, so all of this does feel like overkill and a little rushed.
On the plus side though, both Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill seemed to have nailed their parts in whatever little we see of them, and perhaps their performances may salvage this from being the dud that it looks like now. In fact, it's safe to say that after the backlash that they faced in casting Affleck as Batman, his few seconds here may shut the naysayers up once and for all – he seems to have got the sombreness of the character spot on, if nothing else.
Another thing that may potentially turn the fortunes of this film around is that, we’re yet to see footage of Gal Gadot (as Wonder Woman), Jesse Eisenberg (as Lex Luthor) and Jason Mamoa (as Aquaman), so it's likely that they may well redeem this film from the depths of mediocrity, but for now, from whatever we see here, the chances for this seem incredibly bleak in my opinion.
The plot seems to be set after the events of Man Of Steel, where people seem to be questioning the responsibility that comes with Superman’s powers after a whole city was destroyed to the point of no return. Presumably, people turn to Batman to address the seemingly alien threat that seems to have befallen on the world, which ultimately leads to their inevitable conflict.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice also features an all star cast of Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Jeremy Irons and Holly Hunter and releases in March 2016.
In case you hadn’t gathered, I remained largely unimpressed with this footage. What did you think of it?
It appears that just like comic book fans, leading man Affleck too wasn't sure of donning the cape as Batman in the Man Of Steel sequel.
