Parineeti Chopra, on men, movies and more
She's spunky, fiery, bubbly and reminds us of a Preity Zinta, when she was at the top of her game, and undoubtedly one of the most talented from the current crop of actresses. Parineeti Chopra who's busy promoting her romcom Hasee Toh Phasee, opens up on her weighty issues, her upcoming film and how she's dead uncomfortable getting intimate with her co-stars on screen.
At the launch of the Hasee Toh Phasee mobile app, when questioned about her very apparent weight loss, Parineeti said: "I always endeavored to lose some weight seeing as I was classified as an overweight actresses since my debut. So now I want to wear good looking clothes, and want to look good on screen. I think I was a bit overweight in my first few films," said the actress candidly.
"From now on you will not have any complaints regarding my weight and nobody will say anything about my clothes and fashion sense," added the 25-year-old.
Coming back to her romcom, which also features newbie Sidharth Malhotra, the actress said:
"'Hasee Toh Phasee hooked me completely. I had to stay very focused. It's very easy in a romcom to either play a shy or a bubbly girl with a love story in the backdrop along with lovely songs and climax,"
The film's director Vinil Matthew, who handpicked Parineeti for the role, couldn't stop gushing about his heroine at the event.
"Parineeti was my first choice for the role of Meeta as I felt that she alone could pull off the quirkiness that the character required. She is quite a hard-working actress and has done a great job with this film," he said.
And does the actress look up to cousin Priyanka Chopra, who's been in the industry for over a decade?
"She's not my role model. In fact, nobody is my role model. In this profession, you cannot aim at having a career like someone else's. I could be inspired by different people for different things, but that's about it," said Parineeti, who will feature on the cover of Vogue India's February issue this year.
"Where it's helped me is that when I am in doubt I can call her and she always has the right answers," she added.
Unlike her contemporaries Parineeti is one actress who hasn't shied away from on screen kissing whether it was Arjun Kapoor (in Ishaqzaade) or Sushant Singh Rajput (Shuddh Desi Romance). However, she insists she's not comfortable with it at all.
"If you felt I was enjoying it, I must be doing a bloody good job! I actually don't enjoy intimacy on screen because it isn't with people I am dating. And the kind of person I am, nobody hits on me — they are all cool buddies. I am not a flirtatious person," finished off the actress.
Hasee Toh Phasee is a Dharma Productions' romance spanning seven years with Adah Sharma playing the third angle in a love triangle that also features Karan Johar in a cameo. It hits the marquee next Friday, 7 February.
